Atlas Overview

Online mapping of species and habitat information was the initial focus of the atlas partnership. This sub-atlas has a variety of both agency and locally developed layers. The Species and Habitat Atlas has the largest geographical extent within the overall atlas project.  This reflects enhancements that occurred to the atlas in 2007 where additional map layers associated with fish and wildlife habitat were added and the atlas area was extended to the land in close proximity to Shuswap, Adams and Mara Lakes.

Locally developed map layers include bear sightings from the Bear Aware program, bird sightings, and grassland habitat mapping of the Grassland Conservation Council of BC.

Two local clubs, The Kamloops Naturalists and the Barnhartvale Horse and Hiker Trail Preservation Society, are considering using data update tools to share their club information with the wider community through the atlas.
