Atlas Overview
When considering a sustainable community, the starting point is the geology of the area - both the bedrock and the overlaying surficial geology. This in turn contributes to the soils of the area and the associated characteristics that affect natural hazards, agricultural values, and development potential. Geologic resources, both surficial and bedrock, have high economic value to the area.
A Kamloops-South Thompson Geology Atlas is the most recent proposal for a sub-atlas and discussions with potential partners have not yet moved ahead significantly. It is anticipated that potential partners for this sub-atlas will be: Thompson Rivers University, Ministry of Energy and Mines, and local community groups associated with geological resources.
